"Remember, remember! The fifth of November, The Gunpowder treason and plot; I know of no reason why the Gunpowder treason should ever be forgot! Guy Fawkes and his companions did the scheme contrive, To blow the King and Parliament all up alive." -English Folk Verse (c.1870)
On November 5, 1605 in the heart of London, a group of disaffected English Roman Catholics attempted to blow up the Palace of Westminster, and with it, Britain's king and politicians. While the plot was foiled, what were the motivations behind the planned attacks, and what was the group's end goal? It's time to uncover one of the world’s most infamous (and failed) terrorist plots, and why it's still celebrated with bonfires and fireworks across Britain 400 years later.
Join New York Adventure Club as we examine the full story behind Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot, a foiled attack on November 5, 1605 that aimed to assassinate the Protestant King James I and members of Parliament inside the Palace of Westminster.

"Again, information about a period of history I knew very little about." -Catherine
"Well-researched and well-presented. Some of the material was familiar, but much of it was not. The picture of Westminster and the diagram of the Palace made it easier to understand what was happening and where." -Lahring
"Loved the history and the connection to the various artwork that helped put the "players" in to perspective. I really appreciated the review of heirs and why the religious issues arose. I can never keep that stuff straight and Simon was very clear in his review." -Elise
"The presenter shared unknown facts about the plot. Made it come alive" -Janet
"I grew up in the UK and learned about aspects of Guy Fawkes night I didn’t know before." -Marie
"I am very much appreciated the history along with photographs so much commentary about Guy Fawkes. I lived in Lancashire for the period of 65 to 66 and remember that some of the English students in my class celebrated it but we American kids had so much of our own things going on that we didn’t really get to know what that meant. I thought it was some kind of Halloween. It’s taking all these years to finally understand this, not to my credit! But I very much appreciate finally coming to appreciate what is very important to me personally which is ultimately freedom of worship freedom of religion. Thank you Simon." -Sharon
"The lecturer's expertise, and his light, somewhat dry sense of humor. Very English delivery in the best sense of the phrase." -Tom
"It explained the holes in the story that I knew. I actually found the torture descriptions interesting!" -Lynn
"Very well summarized and easy to follow" -Gilda
